TRAINING
OBEDIENCE: We like to call this our Dog BeHaven' Program!
AGILITY: Obedience in Motion!
CLASSES OFFERED:
Beginning Obedience with a fun introduction to Agility...
This class will have an emphasis on teaching YOU how to successfully train your dog. Throughout the session, you will learn how to teach SIT, COME, WAIT/STAY, DOWN, as well as other useful commands such as LEAVE IT, QUIET, OFF, etc. At the end of each session, we will introduce an agility obstacle, thus making class even more fun for your dog. The class is open to all dogs of any age who have not yet mastered the above commands.
Intermediate Obedience...
This class is for those who are primarily focusing on good canine manners and building their relationship with their dogs. This class will focus on 'proofing' your dogs responses throughout a variety of distractions. Handlers must have gone through the Beginning Obedience class or have had an equivalent of learning from another source.
Introduction to Agility...
For dogs who are friendly around other dogs, who have a RELIABLE off-leash recall, know sit/down and wait, and who have handlers who are looking for something FUN to do with their dogs. This is also a class for the serious dog trainer who has a new or young dog that they want to introduce to agility equipment, and will teach the obedience skills at home.
Intermediate Agility...
For agility proficient dogs who are competing at the Novice or Open level. This class will focus on building the tools in your tool box to prepare you and your dog for the challenges of advanced level competition. This class may be separated by jump height (i.e.: small dogs and large dogs).
Advanced Agility...
For dogs working at the Open/Excellent level of competition. We will work a variety of sequences intermixed with full courses. We will discuss strategy, timing, pro's/con's of different handling maneuvers, hidden traps, etc.
PRIVATE LESSONS:
Have a specific, ongoing problem you would like to address with your dog and don't have time for a class? Want to work on specific skill building in agility? Have a new pup you want to start out on the right paw? Schedule a private lesson to address YOUR needs.
DOG HAVEN TRAINING NOTES:
We follow a PAWSITIVE-MOTIVATIONAL training philosophy using treats, toys, clickers, etc. We believe it's much easier to teach when the student is RIGHT in the first place. Abusive language or behavior is not tolerated. Well timed, fair corrections will be explained and may used appropriately.
Handlers must be at least 12 years old and a parent must be on-site during the entire class. Be aware of what your children can and can't handle both with the in-class handling of the dog, and the at-home work required.
Dogs must be current on their vaccinations (rabies, distemper/parvo combo, bordetella).
We are not animal behaviorists. If you dog has an AGGRESSION problem towards humans or other dogs, please contact us and we will refer you to someone skilled to work directly with you. At any sign of dog aggression, the handler will be dropped from the class immediately.
Classes will run for 1 hour in 6 week sessions. All classes are outdoors, on a wood chip surface, in a fenced yard so dress appropriately. In case of rain or inclement weather, contact the office to see if class is scheduled or not. In case of bad weather, class will be cancelled and an additional session will be added to the end.
Classes must have a MINIMUM of 4 students to be held. The maximum number of students per class will be 8.
Come to class with enough time to settle yourself and your dog. Bring a variety of soft treats/toys, a 4'-6' leash (no Flexi types), pen/paper for note taking, and water/bowl for your dog. Chairs and clean up bags will be provided for you.
